There are some special areas including several resorts that can offer a unique view of the sunset. Not all are accessible to all nor free to enter, but if you are one of the fortunate guests, you can enjoy a sunset in a very special place.

Sea Pines

Sea Pines Resort covers the southern end of Hilton Head Island. This is a gated residential community with a gate fee charged for non-residents and those who are not vacationing within the resort. You may drive into Sea Pines, but it is not allow to ride bicycles into the gates. There are two main commercial areas to enjoy - Harbour Town, with it's iconic red and white lighthouse, and South Beach, home of the Salty Dog Cafe.

Harbour Town - As the primary destination in Sea Pine, Harbour Town is a popular place to enjoy shopping, dining, entertainment, and magnificent sunsets. There are many spots around the circular marina with sunset views, but most visitors walk out onto the Harbour Town Pier to see the sunset over the waters of the Calibogue Sound with Daufuskie Island in the background.

 

 


 

South Beach - The southern tip of Hilton Head Island and the end of the road in Sea Pines, South Beach is the home of the world famous Salty Dog Cafe and South Beach Marina. Visitors enjoy shopping for T-shirts (as required by local law) and dining at the variety of eateries. Live entertainment keeps the area lively with music, juggling, and kids activities. 

Within the South Beach Marina Village there is no real view of the sunset, but just a short walk across the road the the beach on the Calibogue Sound afford the intrepid viewer a broad view of the sunset across the waters of the sound and over Daufuskie Island.

It's one of the best sunset views on Hilton Head Island, however due to limited parking it can be difficult to get to. Plan your day around arriving early and enjoying the area. Bikes are a great way to get to South Beach and not worry about parking.

 

 


 

Hilton Head Plantation

Hilton Head Plantation is a gated residential community on the north end of Hilton Head Island. For the most part it is only accessible to residents and their guests. If you can arrange to visit this resort area, there are some beautiful public places that you can enjoy and take in a sunset.

Dolphin Head - This is a public park and beach area for the residents of Hilton Head Plantation. While there is not a direct view of the sunset, it is still a beautiful place to spend the evening as the sun goes down.

Skull Creek Marina - The only marina within Hilton Head Plantation, Skull Creek is home to numerous boats and one of the largest dock systems on Hilton Head Island. While there are no specific public areas, there is a large dock that affords a great view of the sunset of Skull Creek, a waterway that connects Port Royal Sound to Calibogue Sound and is part if the Intercoast Waterway System.
